Glass Doors

Forever a step behind

Glass door longing

Forever one step outside

Seeing what you hope to be

Talent is not genius

And no amount of hoping

Or tying

Or tears

Or even kind words

Can open a door that isn't for you

I wish the door wasn't glass

Ignorance is better bliss

Pretty and sweet

Kind and loved

Is there a point to that

Besides pleasing others?

What about pleasing myself?

Rotting fruit

Ticking time bomb

Just one moment

Just one mark

To know

It was worth the pain

That it was more than chance

That it had meaning.

Only thing worse than glass doors

Is knowing that the only person

Who cared they were glass was you

The truth

Is there was no door

It was a figment

And a dream

Of a life that will never be

And never was.

A dream and nothing more.
