GIVE ME YOUR SOUL

I don't need your fucking sympathy.

I didn't ask you for your apologies;

your condolences

for a shitty life experience

that inspired these words.

I didn't beg for attention; a "woe was me" rebuttal.

I don't need your therapy lines,

your "choose happiness" falsehoods.

Said in good faith I'm sure,

but wholly unwanted and unappreciated.

What I need is what every bleeding artists needs

when they bare their soul to the page:

a trade, an exchange -

one story for another.

My feelings for yours;

my interpretations for yours;

my creativity for your humanity.

Connection through words instead of algorithms.

I want your critique, your insights, your opinions.

I want it all, every ugly, imperfect word

strung together in gorgeous human sentences

that reaches deeper into my soul

than any "congrats on top story" could.

Relate, debate, experience something.

How does this sentence make you feel?

How does this writer's diction make you change

your perspective on this theme?

Go deeper. Dig harder.

Write down the proof of your humanity.

I don't want your fucking sympathy.

I NEED YOUR SOUL.

Author's Note:

Take this as a call to action for all my fellow writers out there to be more frugal/thoughtful with the comments you make on each others work! I shall strive to be better as well! (:

I was partly inspired to write this by another Vocal writer's work, Katherine J Zumpano's "you mistake me for the speaker of my poems". It resonated so much with me and I just had to add onto it with my own interpretations. Definitely go give it a read!
