Gilded

Ourselves, our sight, and what is seen

By Maegan MurphyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

There’s a gaze I can’t quite catch

In entering, It enters first

Feet, miles behind, cut distance

Till they, the gaze, and I stand together

Facing forward we fail to see each other

Focused, as we are, on another

You, happy to see me, always

But the gaze less welcome

Gold is how I coax your eyes

Catching them in warm nets

Offering spots of light

To safely rest your eyes

The gaze, a watchful hunter

Has no need for camouflage

In a color desert of soft contrast

It boldly stands in two points of sunken earth

And I, in apology for Its audacity

Display a gold mirage

Sparkles of heat hang from ears

Dancing in time with laughter

Spun gold gilding strands of hair

Shroud the gaze in convenient cast

Aided more, by the dusting of sun

Folding over the gaze’s seat

Lastly, spinning rays through words

I sooth even as the gaze searches

And, I, the collaborator

In this two pronged sting

Have never known the thing you fear

The gaze that does not shy

It travels with me always

But we remain strangers

Conspiring in every conversation

Deep patience and gamely glitter

Never knowing each other

But knowing what we seek

Full fledged curiosity

Sure in its fixation with the world

With you, unsure though you are,

In being seen
