Ghosts We Carry

the past in the darkness

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished 2 years ago • Updated 2 years ago • 1 min read

That voice in the dark moments alone ...

Only the ghosts of our pasts come to try again

That whisper in the night and tells us we’re not enough

It’s just the past, our trauma trying to take hold again

Wanting to be in control of us, make us fall once more

But these things are in the past, they have no power

Simply ghosts, haunting our darker thoughts and times

We must move on, move forward, look to the future

Those hurts, those moments that keep us up at night

Put them away in a box, and bury it deep in the ocean of your mind

Throw the key away, let that box sink and be forgotten to time

For what is in there is nothing now, nothing that can hurt you

They are empty, false voices; they have no power over you

They are simply, ghosts of our pasts … to haunt us
