Ghosts Of Women

A Poem

You were three and I was five,

You wanted to play in the dirt,

And I was shy and embarrassed,

Now you’re somewhere on this Earth.

-

You were older than me,

When I was crying and lost,

And you were kind tying my shoes,

Helping me at no cost.

-

I was outside smoking,

And you stumbled into my life,

And for a brief moment,

I imagined myself with a wife.

-

I was walking past,

And you caught me unaware,

“I love your shirt”,

I laid my smile bare.

-

You were there that night,

As I began a friendly chat,

And I retreated as others came,

Alone that night I sat.

-

You talked to me,

Told me I had beautiful eyes,

But mine were for another,

I was one of those stupid guys.

-

I kissed you goodbye,

Asking one more time,

“Did I do something wrong”;

You were the victim of a crime.

-

You filmed me,

Being a bad actor,

But you never cared,

It was never a factor.

-

I think about you,

And all the “You” you’ve been,

Because you are every woman,

I’ve ever met or seen.
