Ghostly Echoes

The Silence in Grieving the Loss of Your Pet

Silence.

It echoes around me,

Highlighting your absence.

I hear echoes of your little footsteps,

The crunch of your biscuits,

And your demanding little voice.

Out the corner of my eyes,

I see the tips of your tail and ears,

But when I turn to look...

Nothing but silence, echoing around me.

Ghostly meows, echoing...

echoing...

echoing....

Into the deafening silence around me.

Where once there was life,

Now nothing more than ghostly echoes,

A reminder of what once was.

My heart breaks in your wake,

Aching with every little reminder of your absence,

Wishing you were here still.

Even as it simultaneously fills me with memories,

Ones that bring smiles to my day,

Feeling, hoping as if you are near.

To you, I say:

My little ghost, how I love you so.

I hope you are not suffering,

That you are happy and loved.

Do not fret,

For I am here when you wish to visit.

I will love you always.
