I was your trapiche emerald
the rarest variety of your favorite stone
you held the spokes of my dark impurities
and around your neck, I was never alone
I was your tanzanite gem
you embraced all my blue and violet hues
then you became a jewel thief
and when no one was looking
you took the stones and left the room
you used to love me for everything I was
and everything I wasn’t
like a stone no one could buy
when diamonds were a dime a dozen
before you became hooked
on the smash and grab
smashing the glass and taking all I had
so I became a gemini stone
able to change under incandescent light
but when it was my time to shine
you were already gone, and out of sight
and my heart bled, a deep and vibrant red
so I put that rock in my pocket
and waited, thinking one day
you’d change what you said
but when I pulled that ruby out again
you had already found your way to him
