Gatsby's Denial

A brief poetic scrambling into the mind of Jay Gatsby

Is there something on your mind?

The gentle rush of dinner parties is a honey daze.

You're a purveyor, meddling in alchemy treats

You've already got one down

The gentleman whose laying bare on the lounge

formation despair, his eyes rolled back

tender hands raised in cheers over a toast

These meek fellows have conquered.

Chandelier candles waving over your head like an angelic crown

What is it exactly that you're thinking?

The green light stretching beyond arms reach

standing on that misty dock - the unattainable view

A lost affection like a wet kiss saying goodbye.

To be distracted by the extravagance of glittered moons

and flashes of wanderlust shot by Moët & Chandon

Does the fountain of glasses ever remain half full or half empty?

Jay Gatsby?

Forever stuck in a reverie.

And as if you were,

A chimpanzee standing on a stagnant bowler hat

That vantage point, a mystifying marble balcony

looking down below to nothing new

An insatiable vision

surreal poetry
