Gardenias on a Live Oak

And the memories that comfort the uncomfortable

By Brittanica GoodrichPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read
A sunny afternoon on Live Oak Dr.

Gardenias on a Live Oak

How do these flowers grow?

Muddled through my memory

That’s where they find their home

A first of remembered moments

But also the most special

How do I get back there

An innocence I now must wrestle

For when your heart gets broken

When the pain is more than you can bear

That memory is right there for you

A smile you can wear

A little coo with your mother

Not a grey cloud in the sky

Let those little petals guide you

Dry that little eye

I am always with you

Even when you start to falter

Because I am just a memory

Of what it feels like to be a daughter
