Fusion

By Cleve Taylor

Marilyn in her fairy wedding dress

All aglow, radiant with her bouquet

Stood beside her chosen

My friend from childhood to present day

They there to take their vows

Their promise of sickness and health

Their commitment to face together

The future whether of poverty or wealth

I home from my unit, only home for one day

Only arrived straight from my flight

And joined them at the wedding Chapel

To help them celebrate their wedding tonight

Then Marilyn and I locked eyes

Our first meeting our first time each to find

Our minds emotions and hearts melding and fusing

In horror finding we were each's one and only

But too late, too late, so never mind

I, away, never to return

She, knot tied, with children

He, my friend, never to learn

Of the fusion
