I have funerals for photographs
As I clear them from the drive
Burying the only evidence
That I'd ever been alive
I wish it was more poignant
With some fire in my eyes
As I watch the curling edges
Of each memory as it dies
Instead I just delete them
When the storage bar turns red
And morn whatever moment
I know won't store well in my head
I don't know why I do this
Bring myself to tears
As I bid farewell to albums
Of my life over the years
I think in part it's cathartic
To leave the past behind
Even when I only keep
The parts that had been kind
So I will build a funeral pyre
And say my last goodbye
But I'll forgive myself the moments
When finality makes me cry
