Moon-magic

Full Moon

The full moon

Reaches silvery fingers

Through my window.

Moonbeams creep across the floor,

The bed,

My pillow,

And shine gently in my eyes.

But I’m sleeping.

I’m tired.

My day

Has been long and hard.

“Yes,” whispers the moon.

“I know. That’s why I woke you.

Come to the window.”

I rise,

Rubbing my eyes,

Stepping bare feet onto warm summer floors,

And look out the window.

And there is moon-magic.

The trees toss silver leaves

In the gentle, warm breeze.

The scent of the lilacs

Drifts in the open window.

And there,

On the lawn,

The fairies join hands

And dance.

They wave to me,

Smiling,

Inviting me to join the dance.

I step through the window

And float down,

Weightless,

To join them.

We dance

Until the full moon

Is covered by gossamer clouds.

The fairies curtsy,

And smile.

They wave goodbye

And disappear.

I float back up to my window,

Settling as lightly

As drifting dandelion fluff

On my soft bed.

“I didn’t want you to miss this,”

The moon whispers.

“This is the magic you need in your life.”

With a final kiss,

The moonbeam slips away,

And peaceful sleep

Reclaims me.

I dream of the dance

And the full moon

And magic.
