October fright

I chanced to wander into October on a brisk afternoon.

It was a breezy, spicy place, if not, a little roughhewn.

The colors? Yellow, orange, and brown, and a bit of maroon.

I lingered there for quite a while, treated to a full moon.

*

The folks in October I'm amazed to report,

Are a very strange mix, and a right lively sort.

Perhaps not all of whom I'd wish to consort.

There were some in the place I would sooner deport.

*

The funny ones, of course, I kept in stride,

But the creepy ones, no matter how much I tried,

Were keeping my heart rate alarmingly amplified

On that frigid, blustery October eventide.

*

They closed in around me, there was no escape.

Some were wrapped up, some had fangs and a cape.

Others walked along with a limp and a scrape.

I feared for my life in this lovely moonscape.

*

If friends head to October and invite you along,

Think long and hard if you truly belong.

October - as for myself - went incredibly wrong.

It's sadly, my finish - my eternal swan song.
