I wrote this poem when I was 17 years old. It reflects the emotions, confusion, and intensity of that time in my life. I’m sharing it now as it was originally written, the voice of a young girl trying to understand herself and the world around her.

I wrote this poem when I was 17. It was 1967, At the time, I was pregnant and had to give up my baby for adoption. My mother was angry, and I felt the weight of judgment everywhere or at least it felt that way to me. Life was confusing and intense in the late 1960s, and this poem reflects the emotions of that moment in my life.

“From Nowhere to Nowhere”

The Girl the World Didn’t Hear

Poems written by Vicki 1967

I sit here in a lonely place

With a cloud to cover my face

The stars have gone far away

No more will I see the light of day

The rains, lightning struck fast

Who could tell what will last

What will I do today

No, I cannot say

I sit here alone and afraid

For loneliness has pulled the shade

What is there in life for me

Each night, each day, I wonder what will it be

This place is growing dark

Someone please light a spark

No, too late, who cares for me

Oh why, why does it have to be

The rains still fall down, down, down

Nothing can I hear but their sound

My face is blind and cannot see

Only there is nothing left for me

The clouds came again today

It just can’t seem to stay away

Someone please answer my call

For in the darkness, I fall

No one hears, no one cares

No one listens, no one shares

Here I sit alone in empty space

With an empty look upon my face

He came to me from nowhere

Oh, how much I found in his arms

Oh, how much I did care

Too late as in the past

I still care for his love

Clouds have come again at last

He came from nowhere in the day

He left here in the night

He left me here with dreams fading away

Hope he finds a love someday

Wish the best to him and her

May they be happy in every way

He came to me from nowhere

He left me here in nowhere

Oh God, how much I care
