Funny Food For Frogs
Four fat frogs fountain floating
Felt funny from first finding
French fries flying from flowers
Falling from fountain figure’s
Flinging fanciful fingers.
Falling flowers failing few
For flickering fingers flew
From figures fingers faster
Flinging flat French fries further
Forcing forbidden failure.
Fast flashing floodlights flickered
Furiously from fissures
Focused for fine flotillas
Fashioned from fresh fajita’s
Frothing fluffy fontina.
Floating frogs found flotilla’s
Fabulous fun fajitas
Fully foaming fontina
Fine food following figure’s
French fries from flinging fingers.
Four fat frogs finally full
Flip for finding fun fuel.
Favoring fabulous feel,
Forgetting floodlight fissures
Freely floated forever.

Well, your Snacktime Sonatas made us hungry, and that’s about the highest compliment we have. Food — taste, smell, sensation — is a powerful conduit to the past, to memories pleasurable and painful and sometimes bittersweet, a mixture of comfort and challenge. Congratulations to Penny Fuller for Sativa — it’s a first win for Penny — a hymn to the “secret, unbounded/freedoms” of fresh peas in the pod. The narrative voice of the poem doesn’t really want to be outside, but finds joy in the green things of the earth; this is a lovely work of resilience.
