Frida Kahlo

A poem about the personal brand

By AggieSoonPublished 3 months ago • 1 min read

Pelvis shattered

Back broken

She spent years

In braces and tears

Pain given form

Through clenched teeth and survival

Defiance stroked into

Canvas through paint and oil

She stares out

From history

A collapsed body her story

Plastered in technicolor rage

I turn and ask you

If you know her

Hoping her work

Had seeped through time

Into your mind

“Of course I do,” you say.

“She’s the mono brow woman.”

I love how words can touch the hardest heart and challenge a closed mind. They are prayers and enchantment. Lament and pain. A way to give form to the immaterial and capture memories before they fade.
