An Ode to Gender-Fluid Names

Mama knows what it's like to be bound, baby.

That is why I am naming you Indigo--

to set your soul free.

Indigo is the color of wild-sugar potential.

Right away I recognized the mulberries

and magic in your eyes.

A sweet moon child like you will need that wide open space

between Blue and Violet.

Take this name like an ocean of "in-between"

and

swim

in

every

drop of

your

Truth.

No gender. No boundaries. Just space to grow.

This name is a gift I wish my mother gave me.

Indigo is plural. Indigo is a verb.

Indigo will make room for all the wild

realms of you, little one.

The grace of this borderless color will gently teach you

what it took Mama a lifetime to learn:

Home is not a place.

Home is a spectrum called Y O U.

Baby, you are a galaxy caught in flesh and

no stuffy old name would do.

I name you Indigo. Cosmic Garden of Indigo.

Bloom without boundaries, baby.
