Freak Show

Say It Again

I transformed into a spectacle on stage,

to reveal the hidden depths of the so-called underclass.

A pathetic scene, with me in tatters,

wrestling with my reflection.

What lurks behind this veil of protection?

Is all the knowledge I need to gain

to smooth out rough edges and feel okay

with the world getting along on its own without me?

Contempt, observed and felt inwardly.

What lurks behind this veil of protection?

I get lost in my own thoughts

where they say everything's wrong and I'm a disgrace

looking out of sorts

as I pass my yard.

What lurks behind this veil of protection?

I walk on, full of pride,

despite the outward flaunting smile.

That's enough for now, thanks for the jest.

I think this zone has too many faults, far too many for my taste.
