Frayed Blanket

Even the worn thin can provide warmth.

You know when people describe someone as damaged goods?

Well I got to thinking about that.

About the wastefulness of our culture and how willing we are to throw something -especially someone- away for small imperfections.

The best case I can apply this to is my love life and the best way I can describe it is by comparing it to a frayed blanket.

You see, most of us have that special blanket we've had for years.

Perhaps it's been tattered or torn throughout the years,

Spilled on, neglected, or frayed.

The material may have worn thin and rough,

But still we wrap it around ourselves and are comforted by the familiarity and warmth of that simple scrap of material.

Tucked in tightly against our chest, the blanket warms us as much as we warm it.

We do not throw it away for its imperfections, for they are the sum of the time we've have spent with it.

We love it because of its imperfections and its ability to still warm us through it.

This is me. Tattered and torn but still has a lot of warmth to give.

Think twice about that frayed blanket.
