Gripped tight close to her warm chest,

She just could not let go.

Her own Mum in frame of gold,

One last piece a gift in time.

Truth of her birth found too late,

Her mum she had not known.

No glance, touch or time to share,

Gone too soon, to find a way.

*

In her life she had known love,

Those she did call her own.

One book closed, she wished could be

Laid bare to set her free.

Why she left, just one small babe?

How could she let her go?

Did she not peer in her eyes:

Find love stir in her heart?

One note left with frame of gold,

Had said in few short words:

Pain far too great to bear,

Had brought her to this world.

She saw a glimpse of the past,

When she held her sweet child,

Pain in her heart far too deep.

In love, gave up her child.

*

She hugged the frame to her tight,

She let her tears run free.

The loss, the love she might have known,

Now moved her to her knees.

Who was she, what was her worth?

Did her past make it so?

What she knew in depth of soul:

Her heart was framed in gold.
