Fracture

First Part in a Series of Love's Injuries

You broke me.

It started as a hairline fracture

I could handle it even without a cast

But then

I fell down again

The fracture spread

You broke me.

I fashioned myself a splint

But then

I took a tumble down the concrete stairs

Bones shattered

I heard things crack

You broke me

I came back with crutches and a cast

But then

You chased me

I ran back up those stairs and this time reached the door

I made it to the edge of the roof

And then

I jumped

Bones snapped in half

My legs

My arms

My neck

My stilled heart

You broke me.
