Four AM

A Poem

It is four AM and I can't sleep.

Not because I physically can't,

But because I don't want to.

When the world's asleep and my mind's awake,

I can do anything.

I can write all the songs that I want to,

Or I can play video games in the darkness.

Nobody can tell me what to do,

Or what to say,

Or how to think.

I can't disappoint anyone or anything.

As I dance with the lights off to my own singing,

I feel alive.

But as the sun comes up and embraces me with her warmth,

I realize that like all things,

Nothing will ever last forever.
