Found and Lost

Dark Optimism

The shine in your eyes

The glow of your smile

Assured me of your love

*

The warmth of your touch

The strength of your arms

Helped me feel secure.

*

What was found has now been lost

Like a boat come unmoored

What once was right, now is wrong,

As if evil has prevailed.

I won't stay, shut out in the cold

Where there's no flame to rekindle

What once we had.

*

The darkness in your eyes

The fade of your smile

Assure me of love gone stale.

*

The chill of your touch

The denial of your arms

Confirm my decision is secure.

*

What was found has now been lost

Like a boat come unmoored

What once was right, now is wrong,

As if evil has prevailed.

Farewell, my former friend and love.

My hope is that

You are found once more.
