Flipping through the pages of my mind
I need something new to find
To discover thoughts yet to be written
Open up ideas to fit in
Between these margins and lines
Deciding on whether or not it rhymes
But being clouded by my crimes
Of the past, they haunt my dreams
Thinking of all my schemes
Remembering the times I was wrong
The person I was wasn’t strong
But I’m moving forward now
Even when I don’t know how
I’m gonna make it through
But I need to be true
To myself and others
Come out from under the covers
And be an honest me
And I know honestly
My best has yet to come
And I know that some
Don’t believe that I’ll succeed
I know they won’t even bother to read
The words that I write
I’ll still sleep soundly at night
Because I’m finding new meaning
I’ll do more than just dreaming
I don’t need to rise to the top
Just keep moving and never stop
A smile on my face is the goal
A real one that comes from my soul
No more anger or fear
Love is all I’ll revere
I’m not there yet
But this year I reset
The journey now started again
I gained power when I picked up the pen
And it feels good to know my dreams
My aspirations like a diamond gleams
I’ll achieve all, and rid my sorrow
Maybe not today or tomorrow
But someday coming
From my throat I’ll be humming
And I’ll be grinning ear to ear
Not worried about shedding a tear
I can’t wait for this day to arrive
When I’ll be able to thrive
But for now I’ll just try my best
And continue forward on this quest

In May of 1945, amidst the collapse of the Third Reich, high-ranking Nazi engineer Wernher von Braun reached out to the US government, aware of his strategic value due to his role in developing long-range ballistic missiles. Von Braun's proactive approach highlighted the beginning of Operation Paperclip, a covert initiative aimed at recruiting German scientists to the US before they fell into Soviet hands. Over the course of 17 years, Operation Paperclip facilitated the relocation of over 1,500 German scientists to America, disregarding their Nazi affiliations and potential war crimes.

Clinging to Childhood
The playground is empty, as it should be past sundown. There is a warm breeze, and I can see everything despite the late hour. What time is it, anyway? It could very well be past midnight. I can never keep track of time, especially in the summer. A prickly piece of popcorn hides like a stowaway in the left cup of my padded training bra. I stuffed the tissue in last minute— a decision I’m beginning to regret, based on the events that are unfolding rapidly before me. To my left, laying non-chalantly on his back, is my date for the evening. He is two years older, could probably grow facial hair if he wanted to, and drives a secondhand Honda. He may as well be a Man. I, on the other hand, feel like a fraud with my too-short short-shorts, sparkly lip gloss, and makeshift push-up bra. I keep my arms pinned to my sides as I feel the dreaded circles of sweat beginning to manifest on my brand new Abercrombie top. I cup my elbows with my hands and stare down at my hint of cleavage, praying that the tissue doesn’t pop out like a white flag surrendouring my lack of womanhood.
