Moments ago

we laughed so hard that the walls of our cavernous bellies split open

and our shoals of organs were hurled skyward and seaward

and seals leapt from our throats

and chaos spilled from our wine-stained mouths

around the treasure chest of yesterday’s fondness and tomorrow’s memories

In that instant we were children swimming in the coral foam

a universal ocean of turquoise longing and blissful unawareness

our agile limbs flailing and grasping at all that makes us whole

fearless and breathless, we rode the waves of endless possibility

weightless and formless, we were tossed towards a better place
