I have begun to notice that
I look just to the side of
the center of
another person's eyes, when we are speaking.
in not quite meeting their gaze,
I think I think
I shield myself from the possibility
of being seen.
like a child playing peek-a-boo,
I think I think
if I can't seem them, they can't see me
like an elephant
hiding behind a tree
how silly to believe
I could conceal the whole of me
by refusing to look wholly
at my fellow travellers.
