Forgiveness, I Say?

I was told to forgive

Because it was religious

Because God gave his life for it

The prophets spoke on it

And said it was for healing benefit

Back then it was something you had to do

Now they say it’s something you do for you

But for all the wars we’ve fought

Over land, resources, simple existence

Many people did not turn to apologize

And if they did would it be a sign of selfishness

An excuse for repeated offenses

It looks like the sour was covered with sweetness

To bulldoze down the forest

And make communities where some are welcome

And only few are chosen.

And they tell me

I should forgive centuries

That have changed only by

Adding more sugar to the medicine

Pushing down the red pill like it’s oxygen

To where I’ve asked if the blue pill

Was the clear sky

Without the smog that makes me cry

Maybe for that they should apologize

How can I forgive something like that

At the blink of an eye

How can I forgive the pain

Of change from old ways

Where people used to thrive

Some how in the midst of

cold winters and hot summers

By the sweat of their brow and labor.

Was it good intention or only dominion

A place where almighty God

Stood with a new face

To put down idols to be free from disgrace

Not to defile with the snake.

But I’ve questioned the serpents

Intentions, why did he tempt Eve

What was so convincing to take

That fruit from the tree

It’s caused fierce debate; apple, fig

Maybe fake…

But such a damnation for

A simple mistake, forgiveness I say?

To where God knew his anger

wouldn’t last long

Just a millennia that took a few days

He banished the snake

For trying to take his place

Forgiveness, I say?

But only evil, only hate

Separation, alter ego… fate

Whether I can stand the pain

Is my point of view on suffering

Knowing that all things have an era

And are subject to change and error

Forgiveness is for me, I say, I say.
