Forget Me Not on Her Grave
She didn't want to be forgot

Forget Me Not on Her Grave
A scatter of blue on the quiet stone,
Where her name is carved in gentle grace,
Each letter holds a trembling ache,
Each space remembers her soft face,
The world moves on beyond this place,
Yet here, time lingers, slow and deep,
Among the roots and silent earth,
Where all my waking turns to sleep.
The sky leans low in muted grey,
As if it too has come to mourn,
A hush that wraps around the ground,
Like something fragile, newly torn,
The air is thick with what remains,
Of words we never had the chance,
To say before the light grew dim,
Before she slipped from life’s expanse.
I bring this flower, small and blue,
A tender flame that will not fade,
And lay it where she now must rest,
Upon the bed where she is laid,
Its colour hums against the stone,
A quiet vow, a steady plea,
Forget me not, it seems to say,
As if it speaks her back to me.
The wind moves softly through the grass,
It brushes past as though it knows,
It carries whispers through the air,
Of all the love that still now grows,
For love does not lie buried here,
It does not sleep beneath the ground,
It lives within each broken breath,
Within each memory I have found.
Her laughter lingers in the breeze,
Her footsteps echo in my chest,
A thousand moments, bright and warm,
Refuse to let my heart find rest,
I close my eyes and see her still,
Not bound by earth, not held by stone,
But moving through the quiet light,
A presence I have always known.
And though the days stretch long and cold,
And though the nights fall hard and deep,
There is no hour that passes by,
Where I am free of her to keep,
She walks beside my every thought,
She breathes within each word I write,
A constant, gentle, aching truth,
That turns my darkness into light.
So here I stand, with trembling hands,
This fragile bloom my only art,
A simple gift upon her grave,
Yet carrying all my shattered heart,
Forget me not, the petals cry,
Though nothing here could make me stray,
For even death has failed to break,
The love that binds me still today.
And when my time has come to rest,
And I am laid where she now lies,
May flowers grow between our names,
Beneath the same unending skies,
Two souls once torn by silent fate,
Now side by side, no more to part,
With fields of blue above our dust,
And one long echo, heart to heart.
