"Forever Only Lasts in the Past"

“I love you forever and ever”,

Never have I heard a sweeter lie.

A lie that rolls sweet like sugary candy off your tongue,

But burns an acidic hole in the pit of my stomach.

A lie that might have been more believable

Had you used the Past tense.

For not a single entity has the gift of true immortality.

Unless, it is entrapped in the tight and unyielding grasps of the Past.

The Past,

Where everything ceases to exist yet never stops existing.

Much like our love,

Forever can only exist in the Past.
