Forest Imagination

an ordinary walk in the woods

Down in the woods, where the fairy river flows,

illuminations of forgotten beasts replaced the shadows.

Simply look to the canopy, the interlacing oaks and sycamore leaves;

treetops hold messages and homes for secret creatures.

Rapt attention gives way to dreaming as they drift down to meet me,

anomalous wanderer come to play, singing to the myths all hid away,

curiosity winning over serenity, between rushes and wind-chimes.

Truth makes for pleasant conversation, the pixie said to me,

imagination is just silliness; I could do nothing but agree.

Ordinary things are necessary, advised the faun and the gnome so merry.

Now I know what they meant, for the fables call me home.

    This was an interesting poem, especially with the mix of fairytale elements and more sobering realistic topics. Well done!
