For the Love of Yellow:
Photo by Niklas Ohlrogge on Unsplash

I’m the slash of light

in the iris petal.

I'm the joyous kitchen wall and

the polka dot of springtime.

When you see me,

your heart lifts

and breaks into song.

I’m no Sponge Bob,

although I’m happy, too.

I’m the sonata of sunrise and the

candle in the window.

I’m the beam

that calls sailors home, the

flash of a canary wing, the

sweetness of vanilla ice cream.

I’m the soft flannel of a

baby’s sleeper and the

blazing head of a dandelion.

I’m the lemon in lemonade, the

blissful in daffodil, the

golden kiss of marigold.

I’m the swing in your step, the

warm breeze of summer, the

pollen-dusted honeybee.

I'm much more than yellow.

I'm bliss in disguise.
