For My Angel Mother
The Heart of a Mother Has Wings

To dissect the heart of a mother
is to find particles of grace.
As the chest is opened up
angel wings unfurl like gentle lace.
Tough and tender are the muscles
that build a mother’s love,
as her veins carry in
the most benevolent of blood.
The heart of a mother
is not built with gates.
Each ventricle’s a home
with infinite space.
Pulsating purity, community, belief-
Mom’s arteries bleed out the sweetest of relief.
Her service strengthens and her listening heals;
there’s nothing quite like how a Mother’s love feels.
