Flying

A rambling poem.

I'm haunted by the stillness of your image.

It does not move, nor does it breathe,

Which is a betrayal of the greatest sort

To the liveliness of what you were.

I suppose ghosts have no power after all.

.

Why did I expect vibrancy from your

Eternal shuffling around the planet?

Was I delusional or just overly drunk

To think you would fill my life again

Despite having left it once already?

.

I could have tolerated a hollow shadow,

But seeing the colors of you against

The black canvas of my eyelids, unmoving,

Still as Death itself, has broken the

Glass-like surface of my reality.

.

What remains has become stagnant,

Utterly unwilling to move no matter

The force pressing upon its spine,

And I am stuck in chains of memories,

Wishing desperately to fly with you again.
