Fluctuating Synesthesia

A personal poem about sensory crossovers

By Martina SilcockPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Can you feel color in your fingertips?

Can you read electricity in your bones?

*

Did you know that sound is blue?

That science names are orange?

*

Do I really touch color with words?

Or are the sensations just associations?

Did undiagnosed connections morph into my senses?

*

My identity is formed by textures

My identity is rounded by shades

*

I find solace in my flag

That others take comfort in too

That many take ownership of and wave in solidarity

*

The colors of my flag merge touch, sound and taste

The senses are pink, purple and blue

*

And I remember that sound is blue

That words spark rainbows in my head

That memories tingle in my body

*

A forgotten touch from years ago still vibrates in my skin

Words from decades ago still oscillate in my skull.

*

And the words are pink, purple and blue.
