Floating in the Middle
The soil is black, the sky is white,
The daisies turn towards the light,
And in between there’s little me,
A butterfly, just floating free.
I settle gently on the daffs,
And watch the world and have my laughs,
For people hurry, fret and fuss,
While sunshine falls on all of us.
Beneath their feet the earthworms creep,
Among the roots, so dark and deep,
Above my wings the clouds drift by,
Like little boats across the sky.
Sometimes my life gets tangled too,
And grey clouds hide my patch of blue,
But then I find a flower to hold,
And warm my wings on petals gold.
I cannot make the summer stay,
Or stop its colours slipping away,
But while the sunshine warms the air,
I’ll find a little happiness there.
The soil is black, the sky is blue,
There’s room between for me and you,
And I am happy as can be,
Just floating in the middle, you see.
