Flip a Coin

Poem Three in the 'Lemon' Series

By Hannah PatPublished 9 years ago • 1 min read

flip a coin:

tails for love,

heads for wisdom.

they're antonyms now.

i'm sacrificing myself to

a screaming dove,

a siren on ecstasy.

i can let this melody

fester within me, or

be a bluebird in a forlorn sky.

am i loving out of habit?

does it matter?

i have blood

on my feathers and

red always has been

my favorite color.

when it comes to the cage,

it's either in or out.

my heart shakes like violin strings,

mind like beethoven's 2nd symphony.

how am i supposed to resist

a rose, regardless of the thorns,

on days i'd die to be red again?

sad poetry
