Flashing Before My Eyes

A confusing end

By Matthew BathamPublished 5 months ago Updated 4 months ago 1 min read

I’m fifteen, and kissing

Clumsily

No idea at all

.

I’m six, there’s a teddy bear

Pink and white

Brown button nose

.

Thirty-five and staring

Distraught

At my aging face

.

This isn’t right

.

I’m in my pram

A baby

Old woman cooing over me

.

Forty, and there’s a cake

Cheers and laughter

Wine too

.

Eleven and painfully pining

It’s hard

Unrequited love

.

Shouldn’t it be in order?

Sequential

This is a confusing end to it all

.

Sixty and swimming in a warm sea

Too far out

Feeling weak

Floundering

Sinking

sad poetry
