Flaming Skies

A stream of consciousness tribute to 9/11

By Joe PattersonPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

I just heard a banging high. Look up! Dang it’s high.

This clear blue morning just turned into a flaming sky.

Oh my goodness another one just came in, flew another bang in and sent a new wave of flames in.

We’re under attack, it’s a fact.

Climbing this mountain of fire to save lives means we might not make it back.

The enemies fly here. The innocent die here. Why here? Snap out of it I can’t stand and cry here.

Pandemonium becomes us. Engulfed by the smoke.

It’s no joke. Straining to escape the jet fuel choke.

Help us please. There’s no ease and now I’m on my hands and knees.

Praying for someone to save us before 11 and 175 engrave us deep into the dirt.

I pray hard that it doesn’t hurt. I’m going insane.

Hoping I pass away before the pain registers in my brain.

I can’t think straight. There’s nothing but chaos in the skies.

Life tossed from the skies. A lot of loss from the skies.

In the mind is where this trauma is forever ingrained with memories of these mid air flames.
