We all cheered for you when you took your first steps.

Tears escaped my eyes; I could not contain my excitement.

I wondered what you felt, were you thinking it was complex?

I mean, you were always crawling. Did you see it as a requirement

to walk? Did you feel a sense of power? Mischievous adventures

is what I thought of when you walked. I would have to chase

you since you learned a new skill; made me think of the lectures

I would have to give you for doing something bad, then embrace

you because I hate to see you cry. First steps are meant to make you chaotic.

Your first steps are not to make you feel afraid. It’s okay if you fall.

I promise you I will defend you if anyone dares call your walking idiotic.

It’s okay if you go running around and decide to draw on the wall.

I loved seeing your smile when you walked up to me.

A proud mother of you is what I will always be.
