Firewood is my childhood
That smell that wafts in the air and keeps me comforted
It's something that reminds me of youth
The young times of the quick inhales and the easy breaths out
No stress, no strain
Nothing was important or necessary
No fervent actions needed to be made
No consequences
There were things I had to avoid! Of course
But nothing was so life threatening
Whereas now
Life is threating
Things are terrifying
I am afraid to be
It is a shock to move my feet
Up and down
Up and down
The small actions send pulses of fear through the nervous system
And so when that smell comes to me for a moment
All the heartbreak fades away
Swiftly, sweetly, I become free
