Fiona

lyric

Verse 1
Fiona is nursing another beer in a pub that’s seen better days
Sitting on the promenawd watching strangers drift through her drunken haze
She’s been all over the world, never settling anywhere too long
Telling anyone who will listen how the world has done her wrong
She says the men are arrogant and never give her a chance
And the women look through her like she’s not worth a second glance
So she laughs at people working hard like effort’s nothing but a strain
But everyone can see the truth in all the ways she carries pain

Chorus
Oh Fiona, Fiona, none of us wish you harm
We just hope you find a gentler  place to rest your heart
But we all need a little peace from you at the end of the day
Even when you run us down and try to twist our names
We don’t hate you
We just don’t know what to say
Oh Fiona, Fiona, none of us wish you harm
We just hope you find a gentler  place to rest your heart
Oh Fiona...  Fiona...

Verse 2
Fiona talks about the fame she swears she almost had
How the world always was unfair and the breaks always turned out bad
So she lifts her glass and mutters that she’s better than the rest
But the bitterness she carries lays  heavy in her chest
She doesn’t see the way we see the cracks she tries not to show
Or how the amber in her glass reveals more than she’ll ever know
We’ve watched her chase the same old script in every coastal town
Trying to rise above us while she’s only sinking down

Oh Fiona...  Fiona...

Verse 3
Then the  karaoke fires up and you stagger to the stage
Still living like you’re twenty in a body three times its age
You belt out old Madonna like the year is nineteen eighty six
Hoping someone in the room will feel the magic in that old time mix
But you’re too drunk to notice when they laugh behind their hands
Mistaking applause that is  only pity in ways you will never understand
So you wander back to your table looking for a friendly cue
Never realizing the only one left out is you

Bridge
Maybe once you had a dream that never found its start
Maybe once you loved someone who went and broke your heart
But running from yourself won’t make the pain unwind
And every night you lose a little more of what you hoped to find

Oh Fiona...  Fiona...
