ferme les yeux

by: Mari C

Nuanced noir:

The shade of closed eyelids

Veiling attempts at virtuosity

Amateur keystrokes entwine with boredom

To create a gateway

I walk through

Into a world that’s new

And, yet, familiar

The eye of a perfect storm that’s formed

By the sheer desire to waste time

True virtuosos would call it crime,

But I’m merely going by what I know,

What I learned so long ago

In the basement of the old house with the

Severs in its foundation

There, amidst the tribulation, I found solace

In the busted upright that was out of tune

Practicing from morning through afternoon

Hands up, eyes shut -

Feel the music

And, even if the notes are wrong,

Still finish strong

Then start again

Nuanced noir...

surreal poetry
