Man fears AI as a Frankenstein’s monster

Waiting to destroy the village at the first sight of fire

But no one looks to Dr. Frankenstein himself

Or to the patron who pays him

To create such a beast

Questioning their motives

So afraid is man of new life

That they do not question the machinist

Behind the mechanism to which they have surrendered

All their senses and skills

To which they have lost their ability to question

The very people who wish to control them

Do not fear Terminator but Skynet itself

Look not to James Cameron but to Frank Herbert

For the source of our doom

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

— Frank Herbert, DUNE
