Family

A poem depicting silence, suffering and pain left behind

By K.D. Hollow Published about a year ago • 1 min read

No one noticed his glossy eyes,

He tried to talk, but they though they were lies,

So there he stood broken again,

A million of thoughts left unsaid,

As time went by these feelings turned to rage,

He soon tried other things to ease this pain,

Drugs, alcohol and the wonders of bling,

None helped and one day he broke,

He took up a blade and got to work.

He wore sleeves to hide his pain,

He walked around feeling empty but sane,

His parents bragged about the perfect son,

Oh, if only they knew what he’d done,

He felt trapped in a hell called his mind.

He begged and screamed but no one cared,

He tried talking he really did,

People talked about family like it was the greatest thing,

But his family made him want to commit the greatest sin,

He felt lost and trapped in the confines of his life.

At 17 was the age he truly broke,

As I look at you now, in a suit,

Face pale, I wonder if I could’ve prevented this cruel fate.

Knowing that I too make you like this,

You told me you were fine,

Oh I should’ve known that it was a lie.
