Fame

The everlasting hunt

By Kay StoreyPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

All my life

I have been scavenging

In the shadows of my mind

For something that might bring

Joy,

Pleasure,

A release that would sedate me

An allusive concept

That would allow me to accept

My thirst,

My need,

My overarching life’s desire

For power

For fame

For an ever burning flame

On the pyre of this cruel world

For the telltale sign of success

Is living in excess

Excess of

worldly belongings,

an audience that stays longing

& their constant outpourings

of love, lust, and desire

No matter the cost

No matter what all is lost

For the fame will warm me

Until my dying days

And my life’s blaze will remain

In this dimension as a haze

Forever burned into my acolytes souls

and my need for control

Finally found

but my lust will still abound

Never satisfied,

Never fulfilled,

Never satiated

For it is yearning still

Evermore until it gets its fill
