Falling

into winter

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 10 months ago Updated 10 months ago 1 min read

thin drops becoming heavy

and the film, begins to stick

the waterways get messy

as the its texture becomes thick

what was smooth, now lightly crusted

blocking escape of running beads

every surface, softly dusted

as fall begins to fall asleep

the starting culmination

ice sickle stars, form on the leaves

the dreamy fascination

as fall gives way to its reprieve

a hush of satisfaction

falls like flakes, cut from the chill

a simple chain reaction

as winter shows up wearing frills

a breath learns how to linger

as it falls off of a tongue

and it gathers like a finger

around the lips where it once hung

reminding all of nature

with its touch of frosty bite

everything looks best in glacier

while wearing only shades of white
