Fading Colours of Time

Fading Colours of Time

Listless life teems into being,

Every babe a colour all of its own,

A hue, a pattern, a shape uniquely grown,

Countless in number, let it be known,

An irreplaceable mirror,

A startling sun stone,

From the deepest seas so mighty,

to the endless skies that soar,

colours of time glint brightly,

with each new child that is born.

A songly gift we then heard,

Mother Earth, she inferred,

Whispering what was in store;

'Of nothing can we ever be so sure,

That towards the light we must turn our head,

And do away with the hazy, monotone dolor.'

All at once I was a darling spring day,

Space and time, were one and the same,

Filled with shimmering kites,

Stark reflections of fresh morning sights,

All around in waiting, a brand new find,

Toys of nature's unending sign,

That dares and beckons to play,

Share in this, such wonderous array,

Run carefree, come in and stay!

Vibing colours of all kind,

retell the lore, forever hinting;

'There is much more!'

Swelter breathless, sultry and wild,

Unfurl that closed fist,

Fear not my courageous child,

Graze a blessed first kiss,

Under primal light fired,

For it shall ignite true bliss,

Tender and mild.

The very next day,

I awake and rise too late,

Wanting to go out and play,

But for the dimmed shade of fate,

Had me sulking and betrayed.

Clocks strike dusk,

No time to adjust,

A pitiful childhood spent,

Succumbed to this aged red rust.

Spectacles thick with grime,

This spirit of mine is tamed,

By a natural crime,

Bruised, empty, and as if detained.

Blurry mirrors all stare back,

Sore, yellow, wrinkled and cracked,

Broken eyes in tears of pain,

Twisted, bent, crippled, ashamed.

Gnarled fingers strain,

About a dusty photo and frame,

In colourless glean, I pray;

'Don't send me away!'

No more colour can I see,

Thieved from my very memory,

How can this be?

Replaced with utter monotony.

Here I drown in the ashes of time,

That usher in the shuttering blind,

I forget, I fumble, confused and lost,

Lamenting this, such colossal cost.

Light has all but gone,

This I cannot deny,

I remember not a thing,

Yet still I chant;

Why? Why? Why?
