Façades

A halloween piece written with this incredibly important year in mind. As a friendly reminder, elections are already underway in the U.S. Please vote.

Masks and costumes,

Old Traditions.

Candies and parties

And superstitions.

Witches and warlocks,

Conjuring Magicians

Ghosts of old pasts,

Mind’s apparitions.

Unexplained noises

And Haunting Visions.

Memories of ancestors

Stirring inhibitions

Halloween’s coming
And so are decisions…

Which façade will we wear
To hide our divisions?

-

These faces we don
To blend with conditions,

Pretending we’re fine
Whilst suppressing ambitions

Of lives that we want
Behind oppressive conditions

Passed by the real monsters

Known

as conservative politicians.

-

The Dead are dead

It’s the living we should fear!

As they terrorize our friends

While they grin ear to ear.

Their intentions are savage,

Inhumane, and severe,

And there’s no question about it,

Their objectives are clear.

In this country,

Best not be brown, or atheist, or queer

Lest your rights turn to specters...

And straight-up disappear.

-

They'll say “think for yourself”
Then tell us what to think,

Rage post “FREEDOM OF SPEECH!”
With censorship ink.

They'll call it tradition
We call it a trick,
Because they’re scared of the truth,
And it’s making them sick.

The real monsters’ façades aren’t masks

But suits and ties

And spoken lies.

The message this halloween:

Don’t stay silent.

Don’t live in fear.

Don’t give in.

And Don’t disappear.

Instead…

Let’s be the nightmare they legislate against.

Let’s be the terror they don’t see coming.

Let’s haunt their ballots AND their talking points.

Let’s show them what real unrest looks like.

Let’s remove our façades, and show them who WE really are.

And most importantly…

Let’s scare the shit out of them.
