Eyes Wide in a Sleeping World

The Gift and the Weight of Waking Up

By VPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

Used to walk with the crowd, blind and fast,

Thinking the moment would always last.

Laughed at the surface, never looked deep,

Dreamed in the daylight but lived half-asleep.

Once just like them, chasing the noise,

Playing the game, mistaking the choice.

But something cracked, then something stirred,

A whisper louder than every word.

Now each day is sharp and real,

Truth cuts through what others feel.

You watch them scroll, pretend to care,

While silence thickens in stale air.

Why don't they see what's right in sight?

Why don't they feel the weight of light?

Is it fear or just routine,

To live so loud but die unseen?

It's lonely, yes, this higher place,

Where knowledge stands with solemn grace.

You speak, they stare... your thoughts too wide,

They call it strange, but it's just pride.

A gift to know, to sense, to grow,

To move with purpose, steady flow.

To question more than just obey,

To seek what hides beneath the day.

But it's a curse when minds don't match,

When hearts stay locked, and thoughts won't catch.

To live awake while others drift,

To bear the weight of your own gift.

Still, better truth than fitting in,

Better the depth than plastic skin.

Better to think than to live confined,

Better a free mind than a distracted mind.

So feed the soul, feed the flame,

No need to shrink, no need for shame.

What they don't get, you now embrace,

The price of light is empty space.

But in that space, you'll learn to breathe,

To plant new roots, and not just leave.

Now everyone will make the climb,

But still, you rise, time after time.
