Dead to rights, she caught you with the blade in your hands

Ironic two oppositional extremes; a babe, our child, and you

Sleeping me, none the wiser; you hovered, watching my chest rise and fall

Three-year-old's discovery: Dad plotting to kill Mom

Read the room; she did, creating a diversion

Angel startled the devil, letting out blood-curdling screams

Claps of thunder to my stillness, I woke

Trembling toddler said she was sick; you complied

I believed, comforting her during dark hours while you calmly caught Zssss

Off to work, you went with sunrise; just another ordinary day

Not so fast; I found the blade under your pillow, and the little one tattled; her heroism gave us an out...

My acrostic is based on a real-life event that happened over twenty years ago, when my little girl walked into my bedroom and witnessed her father standing over me with a knife, watching me sleep.

She saved me and I saved her siblings and me; we escaped not long after.
